Artist Of The Week - Anchor & Braille

It's been about three years since we've gotten an album from Anchor & Braille, the indie side project of Anberlin's Stephen Christian, but this week, on July 31st, the band's sophomore album will be released. The Quiet Life is a collection of haunting melodies and catchy percussion, certainly a maturation of sound since 2009's Felt. The Quiet Life is available now in stores and online through Tooth & Nail Records.

Challenger

Artist: Memphis May Fire
Album: Challenger
Release Date: June 26, 2012
Label: Rise Records

If you felt a little “hollow” after listening to Memphis My Fire’s last album, this next album is definitely a "Challenger." On June 26th, Dallas, Texas’ Memphis May Fire has set to release what may be their best album yet. What makes this album their best? One could claim it is the heavier roots, or the guest appearances of both Kellin Quinn from Sleeping With Sirens and Danny Worsnop from Asking Alexandria; however, although each strengthens the album in their individuality, it is nothing that sets this album apart from any other.

The strength of this album lies within McGregor’s catchy southern-inspired guitar riffs and as Matty Mullins explains,  "the most honest, transparent [and, if you ask me, inspiring] lyrics" he has written yet. Challenger is a crystal clear representation of our growth as a band. It's heavier than anything we've done before." The band’s journey is distinctly evident throughout the entire album, and tied in with the journey is Matty's Christian faith. Yes yes, although Memphis May Fire is not technically a Christian band, tracks such as "Vices," "Miles Away," and "Losing Sight" each mention the necessity of God and His strength - which truly stands out to Christians when we hear these types of lyrics in these songs.

Lyrics such as “Who have I become? This is my desperate shout! Pull me out! Pull me out! God I need you now!” ("Vices") screamed by Matty will not only have you head banging, but will leave you in awe. Throughout the album are also small twists that if caught, which will leave you with a wide grin on your face. For example, the song "Jezebel" correlates to The Hollow’s track "The Haunted" with the lyrics “Well let’s have a sing-a-long! Hello! Hello and goodbye!”

Overall: Rise Records made a wise choice in signing Memphis May Fire and I cannot wait to see what this band has next in store. Whether you enjoyed their last album ‘The Hollow’, or are just turning your ears to this band now, Challenger is an absolutely well done metalcore album that entails transparent, inspiring lyrics, catchy southern riffs, great clean vocals, and clear screams. I now have become a "Challenger" and challenge you to pick up this album. Don’t forget to catch Memphis May Fire on the entire Vans Warped Tour this summer!

That is their own answers on fan questions and one asks if they are Christians and they answer that they are not. You are a liar!

  2. Erik,

Based on your own link, the answer they gave was, "I'll repeat, although we have Christian members we are NOT a "Christian" band so we won't do any Christian tours simply b/c that's not who we are. We are not a ministry based band. If you would like to ask the members in person about their faith I (personally) can promise you that we would speak to you about our own personal experiences but I hope you understand that a public Q&A isn't exactly the place for a personal discussion :)"
You need to learn some reading comprehension and back-off the Redbull, skippy!
